CSIM MEMBERSHIP

The Canadian Society of Internal Medicine offers different membership opportunities to those wishing to become a part of this exciting society.

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

Full Membership
Designated for physicians who hold specialty certification in internal medicine by The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or certification in internal medicine by le Collège des médecins du Québec or its equivalent acceptable to the Council and whose application for admission as a Member has been accepted by the Council.

Resident Membership
Designated for physicians who are enrolled in an internal medicine residency training program accredited by The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or le Collège des médecins du Québec or its equivalent acceptable to the Council and whose application for admission as an Associate Member has been accepted by the Council. Such membership shall be in effect during training, including fellowship. Such member will be accorded all rights and privileges of Full Membership excepting the right to vote in the election of Councillors and Officers or such other matters as may be prescribed by the by-laws to be determined by a vote of the Members.

Medical Student Membership
Designated for medical students who are enrolled in a Canadian medical school whose programs are accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools and Liaison Committee on Medical Education (CACMS/LCME), or its equivalent acceptable to the Council and whose application for admission as a Medical Student Member has been attested by one Full Member-in-good-standing. Such member will be accorded all rights and privileges of Full Membership but will not be eligible for a position on Council or accorded the right to vote.

OTHER MEMBERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Please contact the CSIM Office for more information and application information for the following membership opportunities:

Allied Health Professional Membership
Designated for health care professionals working in the field of general internal medicine, which may include nurses, technicians, health educators and others. Such member will be accorded all rights and privileges of Full Membership but will not be eligible for a position on Council or accorded the right to vote.

Associate Membership
Designated for physicians with an interest in general internal medicine, but not certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or le Collège des médecins du Québec in internal medicine, which may include family physicians, hospitalists and others. Such member will be accorded all rights and privileges of Full Membership but will not be eligible for a position on Council or accorded the right to vote.

Senior Membership
Designated for physicians who have retired from active practice, and have been a member of the Society for five (5) years. Such members shall be exempt from paying annual membership fees and shall be granted all benefits and privileges accorded to Full Membership but will not be accorded the right to vote.

Honorary Membership
Designated for distinguished individuals recognized for their contribution to internal medicine. Such members shall be exempt from paying annual membership fees and shall be accorded all rights and privileges accorded to Full Membership but will not be accorded the right to vote.

Corporate Membership
Designated for any organization or corporation interested in furthering the objectives of the Society and willing to respect the Society's guidelines in its interactions with individual members or with the Society as a whole. Such member will be accorded privileges as determined by Council. Such members may send one delegate to the Annual Meeting of Members, but will not be accorded the right to vote.
